Gasoline Resistant Thread Sealant

Gasoline Resistant Thread Sealant

Permatex II and III (aviation) are gasoline soluble. You do not want to use them for fuel fittings. Permatex does make a gasoline-resistant gasket dressing. I would suggest that. I found it at a local Autozone.

Re: Fuel tank/fitting sealant, gasoline resistant I thought we weren't supposed to use any kind of sealant--especially tape--for fuel tank fittings, for fear of bits breaking off and clogging lines filters and carbs? You may want to try to determine exactly what's leaking. another vote to try SEAL ALL. it even says on the tube "gas resistant". i have used it on a plastic tank that leaked and it worked. i have a very small leak on my aluminium fuel cell right now (along an existing factory weld) and i tried JB WELD but it only held for a couple months. now i see a "bubble" forming and the JB WELD is getting soft ... Teflon tape works. Does that permatex stuff disolve in gasoline? If so, don't use it. The permatex #2 does disolve in gasoline, BTW. Re: Fuel line thread sealants: Permatex Form-A-Gasket #3 vs #1/#2 You can use permetex #2 and #3 on internal engine stuff, just not fuel line stuff, as it will readily disolve in gasoline. I learned quite a few years ago when I put some on an old carb gasket, and the stuff clogged my carb jets.... Looks more like "resistant":

- 3M(TM) Marine Adhesive/Sealant 5200 is not recommended for use as a teak deck seam sealer.
Extended exposure to chemicals (teak cleaners, oxalic acid, gasoline , strong solvents and other harsh
chemicals) may cause permanent softening of the sealant. CPVC is chemical resistant, easy to machine, an excellent insulator, and good up to 400*F. I will make a small gasket for it out of the same rubber I bought and a 1/4" button head bolt will go down through the center with some sealing washers on both sides with a top-lock nut to hold it all together without coming loose.

Re: Gasoline resistant paint for metal gas tank? LP (Linear Polyurethane) Awlgrip and Sterling paints are these types. When you spill gas on your car does the Clear Coat bubble? The Hardener is what does the trick. That's why I suggested your boat paint. I was gunna do it to mine but I got such a good deal on the PC I couldn't pass it up.
